Tesla’s vision is bold, aiming to eliminate fossil fuels and transition to a fully sustainable energy economy. But can it be done? The plan’s feasibility hinges on three key insights:

  1. The current energy system is a colossal waste of resources. A staggering 64% of the primary energy supply is lost due to inefficiencies in power plants, transmission lines, and outdated appliances. This is equivalent to burning two-thirds of our fossil fuels for nothing!
  2. A sustainable energy economy is surprisingly affordable. Contrary to popular belief, transitioning to renewable energy and electrifying everything, from cars to heating systems, would cost less than maintaining our current fossil fuel infrastructure. This is because renewables like solar and wind are becoming increasingly cheap, and electric systems are inherently more efficient.
  3. Building this future will require a mining and manufacturing boom. The shift to a sustainable energy economy will demand vast quantities of materials like lithium, nickel, and graphite for batteries and other components. This necessitates a significant…
