so, medium updated their rules lately about how ai-generated stuff can be used in their partner program. they’re making it tougher for stories that use ai writing to be behind the paywall. feels like a step back, ya know? not just for writers, but for the whole platform.

here’s why this move kinda vibes wrong:

keeping down innovation. ai writing tools, they’re on the frontline of how we’re making content these days. helps writers get their ideas flowing, break through that writer’s block, make things go smoother. by putting limits on these tools, medium might be holding back the very vibes that keep it fresh and competitive.

ignoring what’s coming. they say that pretty soon, almost everything online will have some ai help in it. by setting these strong limits, medium might be cutting itself off from a future where ai is super normal. this rule might make the platform feel old-school when everything else is moving forward.

what’s a writer these days, anyway? ai ain’t replacing writers, it’s making ’em better. medium’s rule kinda misunderstands how ai works in writing — it’s a tool, like how we use computers to write. writers use ai to make their voice stronger, do research faster, clean up their words and sounds. these new rules could stop writers from getting those benefits, and that could make…
