How Much Water Should a Man Drink in Ontario Canada?

8 min readJan 8, 2025

Water is essential for life, and staying properly hydrated is crucial for maintaining good health[1]. But how much water do men in Ontario, Canada really need? The amount can vary based on several factors, including age, activity level, and the weather. This article will provide a detailed guide to help men in Ontario determine their optimal daily water intake.

Recommended Daily Water Intake for Men in Canada

According to Dietitians of Canada, the general recommendation for men 19 years and older is to drink 12 cups of fluids daily (where 1 cup equals 250ml)[2]. However, this is a general guideline, and individual needs may vary. The Institute of Medicine offers a slightly higher recommendation of 3.7 liters of total fluids per day for men, which includes fluids from all sources, including water and water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables[3]. It’s important to note that about 80% of our daily water intake comes from fluids, while the remaining 20% comes from food3. Many people don’t realize they receive about 20% of their daily water intake from food[4]. This means you do not have to drink all of the water you should be consuming. Fruits and vegetables contain a high percentage of water, so eating more of these items will help you increase your water intake[4].
